Just a heads up, there's no need to carry the Skull Key with you all the time. Once you unlock the Skull Cavern, it stays unlocked! Just go to the desert and dive deep for some serious loot.
Honestly, Skull Cavern is overrated. But if you like dying a lot, then it's the perfect spot for you. ?
